2017 brings exciting news to the Trekinetic range of wheelchairs. We shared it earlier on our facebook page, but thought we really must give our blog readers an update too. Were you aware that our brilliant Trekinetic designer Mike Spindle, has been continuously trying to improve the design of his off road, 3 wheel wheelchair? Well we’re delighted to say he’s just managed to engineer a different folding mechanism making it even more versatile than before.
Mike has managed to reduce the height of the chair by an incredible 80mm when folded, which means it can be hoisted (or lifted by a very strong person ! ) into many more cars with the wheels on and with just the back strut removed. This means more and more people will be able to benefit from the Trekinetic range of electric and manual wheelchairs and will be able to explore so many more locations.
One of the difficulties people encounter is how to put the chair in the car boot and make their way to the drivers / passengers side, as generally, the chair is too wide to pass across the lap. At the recent Mobility Roadshow, we came across a hoist company who said that with a side sliding door, they could organise a hoist that could be operated from the front seats !!!!! How remarkable is that? And it certainly would get over the problem of how to get to the front of the car. Technology can be amazing ….at times
